From the Herald Times, Bloomington’s fading flagship medium — diminished but still the city’s newspaper of record:
Remember the law that limited duplexes? Here’s how many have been approved and where.
Look for the Hamilton administration to attempt to amend the Unified Development Ordinance to change duplexes from conditional uses to by-right, permitted uses, as soon as this summer.
The winner of the 2023 Democratic Primary, and the runner-up, both publicly opposed further densification of the core.* Tweaking the UDO, again, to push his poorly rationalized agenda to defy the Comprehensive Plan and densify Bloomington’s neighborhoods, should not be the prerogative of a lame duck mayor whose handpicked successor came in a weak third. This is not how Democrats operate.
*If this is still Kerry Thomson’s stance, it would be helpful of her to reiterate it in coming months.
